Columbia veteran center receives $25,000 for tech access from AT&T

A veteran’s center in Columbia received a generous donation from AT&T on Thursday evening.
On November 6, Welcome Home held a ribbon-cutting event and received a $25,000 grant from AT&T as part of the “Operation: Digital Empowerment for Veterans” program.
The program would help equip low-income, homeless, or at-risk veterans with essential access to technology and life skills to promote stability, independence, and opportunity.
“Having technology is one thing, but having the accessibility to technology is a completely different beast,” Executive Director of Welcome Home Megan Sievers said.
Sievers said the grant and contribution would impact veterans in the community.
“With this grant, we were able to get laptops and tablets, different types of equipment, as well as software, in order to serve the veterans where they are, as well as any veterans that are actually staying here (Welcome Home) on site.”
Veterans at Welcome Home would now have the chance to enhance their technological capabilities and be able to work on their resumes and apply for jobs or look for housing.
Sievers expressed her gratitude for AT&T’s contribution.
“Without this grant, we definitely would not have been able to fund Operation Digital Empowerment for Veterans,” Sievers stated.
“We are very grateful to roll this program out, and we look forward to partnering with them (AT&T) for a long time.”
